Hello,

in our house (built in 1994), we have wooden roller shutter boxes where you have to unscrew the wooden cover at the front. Since I have had to open it several times in the living room and the screws are now worn out, I had to somewhat "break open" the cover, so it no longer looks very nice. New windows with new boxes would be nice, but at the moment unaffordable.

And since the roller shutter strap somehow came loose from the attachment, I have to open this box again and am now looking for an alternative plastic cover that I don’t have to wallpaper anymore and that can always be quickly reopened.

From pictures, you can see that plastic covers always have to be snapped somewhere onto the box. But these old wooden boxes have no fitting for such a new cover.

Does anyone have experience on how I could solve my "cover problem," preferably with a link?

Thanks and regards

If you use a light plastic lid, choose one that overlaps slightly. Glue neodymium magnets to the lid with superglue and mount simple metal brackets or connecting plates inside the box. If you sit a bit too deep with the bracket, you can easily compensate with another magnet. Use as many brackets and magnets as needed to comfortably support the weight. This way you can access the box without tools and have a neat cover. Of course, you can also do this with a wallpapered wooden board, which is just a bit heavier – then you only need more magnets with a larger diameter.
