Hello, with the storms raging right now, I am wondering if it would be sensible to install a backwater valve in my planned new building and a lightning rod on the roof. None of the future neighbors think it's necessary. The backwater valve, from what I have seen, does not cost much (so that it would be significant). However, I can imagine that the lightning rod might be expensive. What is certain is that if lightning were to strike, the roof truss would catch fire, resulting in firefighting water and a total loss of the house.

What do you think?

How much did a backwater valve / lightning rod cost you?

Very interesting. We also actually want to install a lightning rod. About 2000 EUR. I'm unsure.. No one really considers it necessary since everything is grounded..

If your lowest toilet/sink/shower is located a bit above the next manhole cover, a flap makes no sense. At least not if you don’t have a sealed front door, as logically the water will enter here first.

An electrician once told me that a "proper" lightning protection system for a house costs far more than 2000 euros.
