Larger pipe diameter for greater flow rate

Another topic I've been thinking about:

Is it really sensible to install larger water pipes to the shower in order to have a higher flow rate?

In my current shower, I simply have the problem that with a modern wide shower head, there is far too little water pressure or flow rate, and I attribute this to pipes that are too narrow.
I don't want to make this mistake in the new build!

With normal handheld showers this is certainly not necessary. When planning overhead showers with very high consumption, the installer must be informed about this.
