Hello,
Our property has a direct southern orientation and we are planning an open kitchen.
Would a kitchen orientation to the east and living room to the west be more sensible with access to the terrace? Because we are also planning a garage in the west, which will have about a 2-3m overhang to the house, I am a bit concerned that we will then have too much shade in the living room during the day. What do you think about that?

..."with access to the terrace"? Yes! Terrace would be good! Access too! What exactly is the question now?

Where do you need shade or sun DURING THE DAY? One avoids it, another seeks it! The next one isn’t home during the day at all. Basically, I personally like it this way: from the entrance by a short path directly into the kitchen, where I am please also sun, access from the kitchen to the terrace. Own experience: pantry in the kitchen preferably not exposed to direct sunlight, as mold and little creatures can quickly develop. Consequently: see and plan everything in context! Also take a look at the neighboring buildings - every well-intentioned plan in terms of sun orientation can be thwarted by the neighbor’s house.

Good answer. It is really always individual.

We have a double patio door in our kitchen facing south and west.

In the morning no one is at home for long, we want sun in the kitchen and living area in the afternoon and evening. To the east we actually only have a skylight....

Greetings, torsan
