Hello everyone,

I have installed a folding arm awning without guide rails above my terrace. Basically, it works well, but since commissioning, I have had difficulties with the fabric tension.

When retracting, folds form in the middle of the awning fabric, which lay unfavorably when rolling up. When extending, folds form that partly run over the fabric support ring – which has already caused three tears in the fabric.

I have tried adjusting the fabric support ring to improve the tension, but unfortunately without real success.

In addition, I had to install the awning with a rather flat angle to avoid conflicts with the existing terrace roof. This probably restricts the fabric's drainage possibilities somewhat, but a steeper angle was not feasible structurally.

Otherwise, the awning works perfectly – only the problem with the fabric worries me.

My question to you:
How can the fabric tension be correctly adjusted on a folding arm awning?
Are there any other tips on how to prevent folds when retracting and extending?

Pictures are attached so you can get a better idea.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Best regards Josh

Regarding the tension itself: this results from the extension movement of the arms and the rotation of the roller. So what you need to look for is the possibility to adjust these in relation to each other - where exactly that is on your [Markise], you’ll have to find out accordingly. For us, it was a small knob with +/-

The bigger problem I see, however, is the extremely uneven tension along the fabric. And there’s not much you can do about that... it’s practically already messed up...

By the way, it is a Heim and Haus Deluxe awning. I have to look for this adjustment option again. Where was this small pin located on your unit?

I have to pass on that - I was only shown it in case something should happen... we had the part installed by a professional... I haven't had to do anything with it for almost 10 years now... but it is also continuously in use at my parents' place...

Does anyone have any other ideas/tips on what I could do? How can the fabric tension on a articulating arm awning be correctly adjusted? Are there any other tips on how to prevent creasing when retracting and extending?
