Is it worth it for me to install a photovoltaic system on the roof?

Photovoltaic systems can now be seen everywhere on roofs, which gave me the idea of maybe installing a system on my house as well. The roof has a 35-degree slope facing southeast; about 12 solar panels would fit on it. I could get them very cheaply for about 5000 euros. The only question is whether it is worthwhile? The three of us consume about 4000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per year. After how many years would the system have paid for itself?

You should go through the project with an energy consultant; he can calculate exactly what the investment in a photovoltaic system could bring you. This also raises the question of how to use the electricity: feed it into the grid or use it yourself. Both have their benefits. Unfortunately, I cannot give you a useful answer from afar, as the overall situation must be known exactly, that is, on site.

I agree with Hertweck, I also first consulted with a supplier advisor and then decided on a photovoltaic system. Ultimately, it depends on the investment costs, the annual yield, and the amount of the feed-in tariff when such a system has paid for itself. Roughly speaking, you have to reckon with at least 10 years. However, this is only an average value; in individual cases, it can look completely different.

I think that since the trend is basically moving towards renewable energy and corresponding technologies, the acquisition of a photovoltaic system is definitely profitable in the long term. Although there is a large initial investment at the beginning, the return over the years is assured.

A solar system is also being discussed with us and I am in the process of reviewing some offers. From the year 2015, new tariffs were decided by the Federal Council.
