Is attic expansion at all possible?

Good day,
we want to buy a house and have already viewed quite a few.
Now we have fallen in love with a property and want to "strike" soon.

We have now looked closely at the attic and are wondering whether these vertical, slanted boards are load-bearing or if they can be removed without causing structural problems.

To me, as a layman, it looks like this battens were only installed to stabilize the roof structure during construction.

When the time comes and we start with the attic conversion (if possible?!?), I would discuss this again with a roofer/structural engineer and get their approval.

It would be nice to get a few opinions here in advance.

Have a nice weekend and regards

Thomas

Hello Thomas,

You are not removing anything; this is a truss roof construction, everything must remain as it is.

Rhenish greetings

Hello and thank you for the quick response.
So there is no way to change something like that without putting a new roof on?

Best regards
Thomas

Correct, there's nothing you can do about that. You can think of it like an old timber-framed bridge; instead of a thick rafter, many thinner tension and compression rods were installed. They only work together as a system.

Best regards, Ronny

Thank you very much, that would theoretically mean that I have no load-bearing walls on the ground floor except for the exterior walls?!
