Is a roof exit window useful?

Hello,

a roof exit window was actually planned for us. We have a gas heating system but no chimney, therefore no "real" chimney. Do you now need a roof exit window (in the attic) or should you rather do without it?

Best regards

Possibly useful as a second escape route since otherwise there is no living space in the attic?

The heating engineer should know whether the chimney sweep has to go onto the roof. Otherwise, call the chimney sweep directly; they can then also answer up to which eaves height they can, in case of doubt, lean a ladder and whether - depending on the roof pitch - a climbing aid (steps or ladder on the roof) is necessary.

If nothing is needed for the chimney sweep, the question is whether you want a maintenance exit for yourselves or go onto the roof via a ladder in case something should happen...

As much as I appreciate you, I disagree with you.

Besides the size and the opening angle, the construction in front of the window or the exact location of the window also matters.

But to generally say "it's not possible" I do not find okay.

Velux offers emergency exits as double casement windows, e.g. GTU SK08

I am quite sure about that, @tox ... otherwise, I would have said it differently. There have been frequent discussions about it, so I have done some reading on the subject in the past... I would check again now, but with this weather, I have better things to do ;)

I skimmed through it again and yes: ideally vertical alignment of the window... if not possible, roof window with conditions.

Sorry [emoji52]
