I did some research on how to install cross and two-way switches. In the example I read about, there were 3 switches involved. For that, you need one cross switch and two two-way switches. So far, so clear. But what if you have 4 light switches? Do you need 2 two-way switches then? For simplicity's sake, can you also equip them all with cross switches?

You always only need one double-pole switch. Try using push buttons and a [Stromstoßrelais], it is easier.

You always need two double-pole switches for a crossover circuit (the ones that go at the two "ends" when you draw the circuit) and crossover switches for all other switches (those in between) - no matter how many there are (even 0 crossover switches, then you have a pure double-pole circuit). A double-pole switch can easily be replaced by a crossover switch (with one open terminal), which then does the same thing, but of course costs a bit more. I don't know what's complicated or difficult about it once you understand the principle, but I still recommend push buttons, because otherwise people who are just as neurotic as I am constantly wander around and have to bring all the switches into the desired position :D (and if things go badly, it doesn't even work and one is always "wrong").

Yes, well, there are also changeover switches. We have momentary switches everywhere, but only 2 relays installed, because we don't like the different switch positions either...

I looked around the house again. There are actually only 3 switches for the one lighting. The other lamps often have 2 switches. For two switches, are the toggle switches sufficient?

For 1 switch 1xOn/Off. For 2 switches 2xChangeover switch. For 3 switches 2xChangeover switch+1xCross switch. For 4 or more switches all push buttons and impulse relay circuit.
