Hello everyone,
does the cutout in the countertop for the ceramic hob need to be sealed with silicone or not?
The daily installation instructions say nothing about this, except "do not glue the hob in" - well, obviously.
The installation instructions for the Boholmen sink say, "seal the cutout for the sink with silicone."
The installation guide for kitchens says, "prepare the cutout for the stove in exactly the same way as for the sink."
So, which is it?
And would the silicone around the ceramic hob start to smell when operating it because of the heat?
Thanks and regards!

As long as no moisture reaches the interface, nothing will happen. It can't hurt to seal the edge. I have not experienced any odor development, but my experience is based on only 5 cutouts.

Hello Büchenkauer, normally the rubber seals well on the ceramic hob. You cannot use regular silicone to seal the cutout, as it can emit toxic fumes. If you really want to seal it, use heat-resistant silicone. Gluing the ceramic hob itself in place is not advantageous, as it cannot be removed during disassembly (in case of damage) without possibly damaging it.
