Hello, I bought two table tops from the galant series cheaply at the flea market. Unfortunately, I was not aware that the substructure accounts for the price of the tables. Now I am looking for an inexpensive DIY solution. How do you assess the chances of success in equipping a Galant top with VIKA legs?

I think it should work, a plate is a plate, or does the [galantplatte] have any special fittings for the legs underneath?

Hello michelon13,

the substructure for the Galant desk is absolutely necessary, as the top alone is not load-bearing and is not designed for directly screwing on legs. If you attach the Vika legs like that, the table is statically indeterminate, will wobble, bend, and skew like a parallelogram. Normally, you should be able to get the metal frame (substructure) separately at Ikea, as you can assemble the Galant desk there just like a kitchen cabinet. Another option is simply to place two Expedit shelves (2x2) on the sides under the tabletop, then you can also use the desk as storage space.

The part about the plate is explained very well, you can definitely get the frame separately, however, you cannot secure the mounting plate of the VIKA legs because of the predetermined threads.
