Dear fellow human beings,

due to my above experience with the Ikea hotline, I am clearly in the wrong place with regard to the name of this nice site.

However, I have unfortunately ordered a nice wall unit consisting of Framsta and Besta elements, which is supposed to be delivered and assembled next week. Because IKEA does not know the condition of my wall (if I hear that word once more...!), IKEA wants me to buy my own screws for wall mounting. Unfortunately, IKEA cannot tell me how wide the screws or screw heads for wall mounting need to/may be, because it does not train its hotline employees and could easily replace them with Swedish chimpanzees.

Therefore, I am now desperately but not hopelessly asking whether anyone in this forum knows how to answer this essential question. By the way, my wall condition (ARGH!) is as follows: exterior wall with facing brick.

It would be really great if someone with experience could give me a tip, possibly also regarding which dowels to use.

Many thanks and please don’t take offense, it’s not your fault!

Dear fellow human,
then please moderate your tone towards us as a forum...

I am also not giving any advice for your wall here. If you do not know which wall / screw / plug you need for which wall, then assemble the furniture and have a craftsman come who knows about such things.

Thank you

P.S.: IKEA is not to blame, but you as an ignorant person. IKEA just protects itself this way. I would do the same after reading your statement. Thank you

Call centeritis in Germany is unfortunately not a problem specific to IKEA. In the past, I could usually speak to the right employee at a company with specific questions and received competent information. Nowadays, you are blocked by people whose knowledge is inevitably limited. How is someone supposed to know all (technical) details of the entire range? Sometimes you have the chance that written inquiries are forwarded to the responsible departments. I have had this experience, for example, at Bosch-Siemens-Hausgeräte. In this respect, in my experience, IKEA still has room for improvement.

As for your screws, there are rosettes (114931) for BESTA that are placed under the screws. Take one of those to a specialist store, or if necessary a hardware store, and ask for screws with a suitable head.
Regarding screw length and plugs, you can find information from plug manufacturers. However, if you look at Fischer plugs, you will see that all nylon plugs are said to be intended for light cabinets. Is that what they recommend for high loads? A chemical solution, i.e., an anchor glued into the wall. If the plug manufacturer himself does not want to take responsibility for mounting hanging cabinets with plastic plugs, who else should do so?
If the cabinets are not only hanging on the wall but standing on the floor or stacked, load capacity is of course not a problem.

Hi,

wow. Great start.

Regarding the topic, hotline or not, if you ask this question in the furniture store, most employees will just shrug their shoulders. Not because they already belong to the species Swedish chimpanzees, but because they are not allowed to make such statements. Basically, you already have the answer you need. Screws and dowels! Then you can look at the assembly instructions online for the items you bought and also see where the screws need to go. You can even see how big the drill bit for the hole needs to be! Now only your wall condition is interesting. With this information, you go to your specialist retailer. Explain to them what is planned and they will sell you the right screws and dowels. And if you don’t get a proper answer there, you have every reason to complain, Ikea is least to blame for that.

Greetings

Nayla
