Hello community,

yesterday we saw a combination of a Expedit shelf with an attached desk top. I liked it quite a bit and it also fits perfectly into our remodeling plans for a new living room. But I have a MuFuD (multi-function printer) and I wanted to put it in the Expedit. Only that this (logically) is bigger than one of the small square compartments. So I would have to remove one of the intermediate boards – specifically the very top one. According to the assembly instructions, these are "only" plugged in and I think that would not be a problem. My printer would fit into this compartment, which would then be twice as wide (whether or not I can fully open the scanner lid I do not know yet). Now my question: Has anyone ever left out a crossboard in an Expedit shelf? And if so, did it somehow affect the stability?

Best regards,
Michael

But you mean the narrow boards now? Not the wide ones that connect the main panels?

Look for an Expedit plan as a PDF, for the 59er (EUR) version.

If you leave out the small boards, you just have holes in the respective side panels, which you can certainly hide with blind caps in the right color.

If you leave out one of the wider boards, then you can't attach two of the narrow boards. So a huge hole appears.

And as a conclusion, it should also be said that the stability of course decreases. The load specifications are no longer valid, and if something happens, Ikea will of course not cover the "assembly mistake."

You can also leave out the back panel in a shelf with a cardboard back panel (I mean thin wood), but this also has its reasons for stability, as with the Pax back panel. You just have to remember that.

With the Expedit (solid boards), it should not be a problem if you leave out one of the narrow boards.

Just think about the holes that then appear and that the load limit is lower.
