Hello. We are currently concerned with the topic of stair step lighting. Our staircase is U-shaped and we would like to have spotlights in the wall above the stair steps. However, the arrangement causes us serious problems because we have no experience with this type of lighting. We have illustrated 2 possible arrangements of the spotlights. Does anyone know how to implement this? I’m a bit worried about possible shadow casting, although we don’t want to install a spotlight above every step. We are looking forward to your information.

First of all, it depends on the spot. Depending on its values, there will be more or fewer spots. By the way, the measure later used is the cheek and not the stair step itself. Ours, for example, is curved. In terms of length, we also oriented ourselves to the stair length itself when it was installed and left the wall out. Here are two photos I dug up again.

If you are a millimeter fetishist, get used to the idea that the spots on a concrete staircase are never positioned 100% identically. Unless they are installed after the tiling work!

Due to the varying thickness of the mortar bed that the tiler has to use to achieve an even staircase, the steps shift by several centimeters.

Good morning. This was also told to us by the tiler. We have no problem with that. I am only interested in the shadow casting, whether the spots should be planned centered above a stair step or directly between two stair steps. I am a bit worried that when installing centered above a stair step, the step below will only receive a shadow.

Is the staircase lighting switchable separately? Are there any other light sources for the "staircase"?

There are two more wall lamps in the stair area. They are to be switched simultaneously with the stair step lighting.
