Hello everyone,

I want to buy a listed building. The floor coverings in it are also protected. Part of the floor is terrazzo flooring. However, I want to install underfloor heating throughout the entire house. How can I solve this problem? Can I have the floor removed?

Terrazzo floor... a dream!!!

I don't have a helpful answer ready, but I wanted to share my personal opinion about the floor, which I envy you for.
Not about the problem though...

Hello,

What kind of floors - besides terrazzo - are they?

Rhenish greetings

Well, I don’t know yet if terrazzo flooring is a dream. I don’t know what kind of terrazzo covering it is. The house is from 1906. Does that help?

Hello,

Not exactly – I wasn’t referring to the age of the flooring; that is already implied by the fact that this part of the covering is also protected as a historic monument. You write: "Part of the floor is terrazzo flooring." – to me, that initially reads as if other parts of the flooring are also protected as a historic monument. That’s what my question was aimed at, therefore. If this were a kind of Venetian floor, you could forget about installing underfloor heating at this spot.

If it’s "just" the terrazzo – which is really a beautiful floor covering – you will need to have it professionally removed in order to be able to reuse it later.

With buildings under historic monument protection, it is always advisable to keep in mind that restrictions as well as higher renovation costs are to be expected.

Best regards from the Rhineland

What kind of terrazzo, I do not know.
However, terrazzo flooring has only been installed in 2 rooms.
The rest have parquet or floorboards.
These can be removed and reinstalled.

So you can remove terrazzo flooring?!?
How does that work?
