Hello
after 2 visits to the Fertighauswelt Hannover we are already quite a bit wiser regarding our wishes and feasible possibilities :-) so far everything is great

now I am completely overwhelmed with the different heating systems

one of the 3 providers currently favored by us advertises extremely with the air-to-air heat pumps

for me it is still unimaginable that I should have neither radiators nor underfloor heating..

it seems to work, otherwise this technology would probably not exist...

but what does it look like in reality??

the house that was the topic there has a living area of about 150m2 on one floor and actually a flat roof... meaning photovoltaic as an addition to the air-to-air heat pump to save electricity costs would "only" work with installed photovoltaic modules.. - but I find that rather ugly, so the plan for the flat roof bungalow would be dropped for us...

is it really possible - without extremely high electricity costs - to use only an air-to-air heat pump??

it is being built for 2 people, preferably on one level, without a basement....

1.5 two-story construction is not completely excluded, since the approx. 50,000€ additional costs from bungalow to 1.5 floors are of course also an issue... but the "age factor" and the desired single-level living situation currently outweigh for us

I would be very happy about information WITHOUT many abbreviations, because right now I am just googling what abbreviations mean.

I have already tried to get a little smarter in the pink forum, but I also fail there because of the many abbreviations :-(

so far we only know gas condensing boilers with some solar on the roof for hot water generation... everything else is completely new territory

THANK YOU VERY MUCH in advance and best regards

Jule

So...
Air-based heat pumps always depend on how cold it can get, especially in winter, as well as how good the insulation of the house is. Then there is also the orientation of the window areas, etc... Air-to-air heat pumps rely even more on good insulation than air-to-water heat pumps (but are probably cheaper to purchase, though more expensive to operate, since electrical reheaters are likely needed in all supply air ducts (even though they should only operate at low outside temperatures).
Geothermal energy would usually be even cheaper in terms of consumption costs, but sometimes fails due to the costs of deep probes, the necessary permits for them, or available space for ground collectors.
I consider the supposed necessity of photovoltaics to be a pretext. Photovoltaics usually only make sense with a high self-consumption rate and quickly become uneconomical if a lot is fed into the grid in summer and a lot of electricity has to be drawn from the grid in winter. And the heating needs a lot of electricity in winter...
Gas was not an option for us at the time, the distance to the gas pipeline was too large.
Therefore, it became an air-to-water heat pump. Geothermal energy failed due to: space for ground collectors as well as permits for deep drilling, so it was not considered further. There is no photovoltaic system on the roof yet; it is currently not economical for us.

Regards
I.

Well, air is a poor conductor of heat... ergo you need relatively much energy to maintain the temperatures or, alternatively, very good insulation...

Of course it also works, but basically these systems are more designed for passive houses and not for the "standard houses" that are built today... but a salesman/representative will of course tell you everything so that you buy his product...

Thank you very much for your clear explanation

That's exactly what I fear:
that the electric auxiliary heaters consume so much that the additional cost of an air-to-water heat pump would be offset quite quickly?

thank you too

yes, everyone can sell their product especially well :-)

but we have already noticed extreme differences from "I talk well" to "I know what I'm talking about"...

unfortunately, we really lack a solid basic knowledge about heating to be able to evaluate

Yes, that will very likely happen... unless you build a super airtight and insulated house...

And even air-to-water heat pumps are not necessarily energy savers...
