We are currently considering whether it would be sensible and useful to have a house construction contract with a house company reviewed by a lawyer before signing.

Have you done that as well or is it completely unnecessary?

I would say, that's up to you. Do you know enough? If not, it is advisable. Whether it was necessary, you will only notice afterwards. I admit I didn't do it, but only because my neighbor built with the same company, everything was OK, and he would build with them again. Therefore, I dared to do it without.

We had our contract inspected by the lawyer. I would do that again anytime, after all, it involves a considerable amount of money. We had already discussed the [Bauleistungsbeschreibung] beforehand, and the lawyer just reviewed it.

Definitely have it checked! One of my best (school) friends is a lawyer (unfortunately not for contract or construction law but for banking and capital law... damn!) but he told me, when he heard that we want to build and also want to have all contracts checked: "If there were more people like you, we would have less work - that is the only wise thing you can do. If you knew how many people my colleagues have as clients who were too naive when signing contracts...". After all, these are probably the signatures that will cost you the most money in your life. All eventualities should be excluded as far as humanly possible! One more tip: Check with the consumer advice centers, they also have this service on offer (also fee-based, but not as expensive as if you go to an individual lawyer!) Regards Nachtzeche

I can only recommend it to everyone. When I built my first house as a young guy, I had an old house completely renovated. I signed naively and in the end, they simply put all the old rubble they found while removing the garden under the facade. That was another 40,000 euros and a lot of sweat to correct the whole thing. The company had meanwhile gone bankrupt.

Consulting a lawyer is always recommended, it can save you a lot of trouble. Additionally, during the construction, an expert should be consulted.
