Gravel in grass grid stones

Hello everyone,

I have a question.

We bought a house and the driveway or parking spaces in front of the house (about 40 m²) consist of grass paver stones. More precisely, paver stones with all kinds of weeds. That bothers me a lot. My idea now would be to empty hole by hole and fill with gravel/crushed stone/pebbles.

Which material would be most suitable and how thick should the layer of pebbles be so that weeds hardly come through... ??

if there are already weeds there, they will keep coming back no matter what loose material you put in... I would just put topsoil in and grass seeds on it, then mow it regularly and the weeds won't be noticeable either
