Good day

We are planning granite tiles (3cm wide) for the stairs in our new house.

We thought that we were allowed to round the stairs. But a friend pointed out that there are certain regulations to ensure safety against slipping hazards.

Are these regulations also applicable to private properties?

What exactly do the regulations say regarding this?

Are granite tiles of 2cm width also suitable for stairs? Will they look good?

If rounding is not allowed, which cuts are recommended?

Thank you very much.

Hello,

I don't know the regulations, I would have to ask an expert about that. But I wouldn't like the 2 cm width on the stairs. However, I'm not sure if you mean the width or the thickness of the granite slabs with the 2 or 3 cm?

Best regards

We also have granite on the stairs from the terrace down. These are 3 cm thick and are made from one piece. The good thing is that they can be well connected with the other material. The edges are rounded, but that is already the case from the factory.

What you mean Kurt1985, those are finished stairs made of granite. But subansuba meant tiles made of granite. That is something different. The edges of the stairs are rounded, that is also required. But not with the granite tiles.

Stairs are different from slabs or tiles. I have laid granite tiles and they not only look good but are also practical. They are easy to clean and can withstand a lot of wear and tear.

I chose rectangular ones and the dimensions are 30X30 cm. They were also easy to lay.

I do not like such ready-made granite stairs. I prefer tiles, and they are easier to lay than installing the ready-made stairs. Once a steel beam slipped from my hand on the stairs and two tiles were damaged. I was then able to replace them easily. With a ready-made staircase, that would have been much more expensive.
