Glass door on the ground floor between hallway and living room - sliding vs. hinged?

Hello dear community,

does anyone have experience with a glass sliding door between the hallway and living area on the ground floor?
It will be installed next to the stairs (see floor plan).
On the other side is the kitchen with a freestanding island.
The option with a sliding door arose for space-saving reasons - but how does it look in terms of sound insulation?
It will be a solid house, the stairs are concrete stairs.
Are there any other disadvantages of a sliding door?

Thank you very much!

Best regards
Nils

A sliding door actually offers no sound insulation. There are super expensive ones that seal that way, but as I said, they are super expensive. You can't put anything against the wall where it slides open, and often you can't even hang anything. That might not be so relevant here, although an herb shelf would also look good there. I would install a hinged door (opening into the hallway towards the stairs).

I just stumbled over that, but you mean, from the hallway's perspective, a right-hand hinge, so the open door leaf then stands against the wall ... I would see it that way too. That way, the door leaf interferes the least.

In my opinion, there should be no sliding door there. 90% of the sliding doors I know are almost always open because it is annoying and takes time to open and close a sliding door. Therefore, in my view, a sliding door has no place here at the main door to the living area ...

I completely agree! But if a sliding door is absolutely necessary, I would have it run into the wall. In our first house, we had a pure glass door (not a sliding door) between the living area and the hallway; it reduced some noise, but not really much, certainly not comparable to a normal interior door.

I agree.

Sliding doors do not stand in the room, but either lie within the wall (doubling up) or in front of it... so the space saved will be taken away from you elsewhere. Sometimes it fits.
Does there even have to be a door there in the layout?
Otherwise, yes to the hallway.
