Hello,
I wanted to retrofit our old garage door with a door opener. Unfortunately, I have found two problems.

Problem 1: Weight is not known. The door (solid wooden door) has an area of just over 6 sqm, but I do not know how to determine the weight.
(On the door at the top right and left, there is a wire rope going all the way to the back, with weights attached to them. This makes it easier to open the door because the weights support it. These would of course have to be cut when installing the door opener.)

Problem 2: As can be seen in the pictures, one rail (relatively far forward, I have marked it red in the picture) runs completely vertically - it is not rounded towards the back.
That raises the following question: When I close the car door by pulling it down from the outside, it works. However, the door opener would "push" the door from back to front. Since the rail is vertical, that cannot work... can it?

I would be very happy for any help! We definitely want to keep the door, but it should be electric soon (due to age).

I don’t believe that at all. You are making the typical mistake of zooming in a lot and lacking an overview. Still, I think (to be able to "recognize") that we are dealing with a tilt gate here. Look around at the respective manufacturers, for example Ruku still makes such gates today. You will be at least a motor tormenter (unless it all goes completely wrong) if you want to attach a sectional gate drive to a tilt gate—even without the foolish idea of cutting the weights.

Very nice gate! For the weight, there are powerful motors. The usual drive is not suitable for the mechanics, I am skeptical about that, just like you. Mechanically, you need a pulling function both for opening and closing. I don't know if any manufacturer does that. It would be a great DIY project.

I am currently trying to reach the manufacturer Ruku.
I read on another site that if you want to equip a tilt gate with a drive, you would need a "tilt gate fitting." Does that mean anything to you? Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything about it.

I myself, as a window technician, was only involved in sales back then, dealing with what customers wanted, and those were sectional doors. My father worked for a swing door manufacturer, and the drives came from suppliers (which you might otherwise know from car batteries or washing machines, for example). I assume that for a tilt gate, due to the differing kinetics compared to the swing gate, you need an adapter in the form of a special angle or joint, and the drive motor itself is otherwise basically the same.

Alright, then I'll see if I can find something about that. Thanks!
