Hello dear experts,

while browsing the internet, I came across a log house that I like in terms of basic structure. The walls are 92mm thick, with double-glazed doors and windows, storm strips. The price for this is 40k for 92sqm, with assembly and installation, insulation about 60k. Still missing are electrical, heating, furnishing, and thermal insulation, it could settle around 100k. My question is, is such a log house / "Premium Gartenhaus" even recommended for long-term and permanent living? I just thought with the 92mm walls, it should be almost on the same level of basic stability as a usual timber frame construction and therefore am even considering it.

Thank you very much for the help.

why not. I know an acquaintance who permanently lives on the campsite in a tinny house

he's still alive^^

Of course it is doable. It is just a house.
Whether it is legally feasible everywhere (Energy Saving Ordinance, building permit, etc.) is another matter.

From Austria to Canada to Patagonia, people sometimes live in simply built houses. With that, you probably break the usual mainstream life, which however need not be a disadvantage. What do you actually mean by [Thermodämmung] exactly? You just have to be careful if you want to bring such a house up to the usual settlement house standard as of 2020, that can then be inappropriate but for me something like that would not be a problem. If the location also fits, by the lake or with a view..... perfect.

I have also seen such houses. As a summer house somewhere by a lake or as a luxury garden shed certainly OK. Whether you are allowed to live in there regularly is another question as nordanney has already suggested.

I don’t know about thermal insulation either. I have seen that some of the log houses have double walls with Styrofoam in between. Maybe that’s what is meant?
