Garage extension instead of prefabricated garage

Hello everyone,

for our house, we originally planned to put up a prefabricated garage. However, our property doesn't offer much space; we can only use the 3 meters to the left of the house up to the neighboring property. But there should also be a security door to the utility room on this side. The ideal solution I see is a kind of garage extension, where you can directly enter the garage from the utility room door.

Now my question. Is that so easy? Would you suggest a different solution? I look forward to any opinion.

Thank you in advance! Marko

Think about the alternative of a carport. Instead of the very expensive garage, we are now installing a carport with a 3x3m shed as an extension. It costs well under half the price of a garage.

Thanks for the answers!

I would prefer a solid garage. A carport was our first thought back then, but a garage seems "more solid" to me. It should be a secure parking space for the car, but also for bikes, tools, and equipment. I am currently having offers from garage providers sent to me, with the condition that one wall is attached directly to the wall. Let’s see if anything comes back and what it costs. A custom wooden garage sounds interesting. How high would you estimate the price for that?

About how much will that cost you?

approx. €5000 including foundations and connection to [Entwässerung]. Additional costs apply for paving.

Our custom wooden garage (3.50x6.50) cost about €4,500 with a 3m sectional door (material only). We built it ourselves. We chose larch on the outside with decorative strips. For the roof shape, we went with a 10° shed roof with a gutter at the rear end. This gives us a height from 2.0m up to about 2.8m. We also did the paving stones and foundation ourselves. We calculated the static, but did not have to present it, so we didn’t need an "authorized signatory".

Hello Marko,

For the garage manufacturer I mentioned to you, this is everyday business. We have had it installed like this several times and have found no problems so far.

Kind regards
