Hello everyone,

after our energy supplier installed our multi-utility house entry last week (element in the basement wall including 4 empty conduits in the workroom), we should now fill the basement insulation cut out around the connection with construction foam.

As a layperson, you feel quite helpless in front of the corresponding shelf in the hardware store, and all competent staff in the store prefer to play hide and seek rather than offer advice and support...

What type of construction foam would you recommend?

At the moment, I tend to a "Brunnenschaum" which is both waterproof, rot-resistant, and thermal insulating.

What do you think?

Regards,

Dirk

Hello,

I can only speak from our experience. For us, the multi-utility connection was installed precisely with a special seal (I think it was called a Doyma seal) around it that was then tightened (sorry for writing this so layman-like). I also believe that expanding foam is not suitable at all for sealing (especially in the basement), but as a layman I could of course be wrong.

Oh sorry, I overlooked an important detail: you are only talking about the basement insulation! Then forget my previous comment. Surely another user with more experience can give you the crucial tip.
