Flush plate for toilet: more practical from the front or from the top?

Hello,

where is it most practical to install a flush plate on a pre-wall system? Most installations have the plate at the front, presumably for aesthetic reasons. But wouldn’t the plate be much more practical from a maintenance perspective if it were on top?

Hi

No, that doesn't make any difference

Families with children are also happy when the child can quickly wash dishes on their own... Besides, there is otherwise no space for decorations up there ;) I know it has nothing to do with maintenance, but it is not unimportant

That would be my argument too :D

And the surface above collects dust... after a few years the gaps become unsightly.

For aesthetic reasons, I would definitely prefer the front.

For maintenance: theoretically, you can reach the bottom of the cistern from above if any limescale residue or something else gets stuck there. From the front, I probably can't get down there anymore. I can put in the limescale tablets, but that's about it. Or am I thinking about this wrong?

Our current toilet still has a classic cistern where you simply remove the lid. That question doesn’t even arise ;-)

We currently have both variants in the apartment. The top one only makes sense if the wall recess is rather low.

Both get equally dirty (cracks), the dust falls through the cracks into the box, so the horizontal version does not get more contaminated either, and it should be wiped with antibacterial cleaner at least once a week anyway. So if it gets dirty for someone, they really have other problems.

Strangely, the top-opening variant is more user-friendly, but that may also be a matter of habit, because I use the toilet much more frequently. The top opening is indeed more maintenance-friendly, you can access everything quickly (filling speed/fill level, etc.), but actually you have to access it so rarely that I wouldn’t choose based on that.
