Who of you can share experiences with solid wood oiled countertops in the kitchen. I chose Iroko, but have not ordered yet because I have some concerns about moisture. Greetings from Upper Austria

In recent years, I have tested all kinds of countertops and wood is, alongside ceramic, my favorite. However, only oiled countertops become very stained quickly. For solid wood, I like to use hard wax oil - it is also food-safe and makes the countertops almost indestructible, even in the edge areas.

Solid oak 40mm. Oiled annually with Rustins Danish Oil. Property. Totally low maintenance. BUT: Once a fruit piece rotted and left a stain, as it penetrated deep into the wood. Everything else usually disappears with the next oil application. I can recommend solid wood after almost 4 years. And iroko is significantly more resistant than oak. It is more of a decking wood. But keep in mind, the color changes over time

You have to like that it doesn't always look perfect and, of course, requires regular maintenance up to occasional sanding. Those who can deal with this will enjoy it for a long time.

I would compare it to parquet. It's quite similar.

I have nothing good to report with solid beech (carpenter quality, not DIY store) with poor maintenance :rolleyes:. Can you say something about prices of Iroko? I am still undecided about my new countertop ...
