Hello,

I have not yet received an answer to my question in another forum. I believe I am better off here because the topic fits better.
We want to buy electric bikes and are now a bit confused since we read on a portal for bicycle boxes that the battery only delivers half the power in winter when it is cold. Additionally, it has to be fully charged again every two months. Is that true? Have you had similar experiences?
Thank you very much for your answers.

I have no knowledge of electric bikes.. but a little bit about batteries.. I think if you keep the bike in the apartment (above 10°C) and only take it outside for half an hour to go somewhere and then put it back inside somewhere, or return soon.. that shouldn't harm the battery. If you park your bike outside the door (outside at -10°C) and constantly keep it out there, then I can imagine that it suffers quite a bit. But if it's only outside for a short time. A few minutes or even an hour or two. Then that shouldn't affect the battery. And discharging it when you don't need it and only charging it when you need it soon is advisable anyway. Batteries do not like to be fully charged and then sit in a corner forever. They also don't like to be only partially charged all the time. Ideally, you should always fully discharge and fully charge it and only charge it if you plan to ride in the next few days. If you don't move your bike for 2 months, I can well imagine that the battery won't have much left in it. That is also not exactly healthy for the battery. Maybe the dealer where you want to buy it will lend you such a bike for two weeks on a trial basis for a few bucks. You say you’d like to convince yourself of its everyday suitability beforehand. That's understandable.. Then you see what works and what doesn’t. Also remember that the battery probably won’t last forever. You will certainly have to replace it after a few years.. Best regards

Thank you

Thank you very much for your reply. Yes, the dealer was right. As you already wrote, if it is stored indoors, it does not harm it. But it does at freezing temperatures. In December, I already heard the first acquaintance curse. He has to buy a new battery but wants to do it in the summer.

Hello,

I work at a pizza delivery service and we also have electric bikes there. As long as they are stored indoors and not left outside for too long, it's fine, but as soon as they stand outside for too long, the battery will pay the price.
