Hello, I don't know if I am in the right place here. I have an urgent question. We have been living in our new building for half a year. We have clinker bricks as the exterior facade, including expansion joints. However, our expansion joints are still not sealed. Is that bad? What is the purpose of sealing them? Is it just for appearance? Regards, Lisa

The expansion joints technically need to be sealed. Otherwise, too much water will penetrate during heavy rain. Is it a drama? Probably not. I would still have it done soon. It can be done quickly with compressible foam tape. You can also create a PU joint, which might be somewhat more "premium," but about twice as expensive.

Thank you very much for the answer. If the expansion joints that have not yet been sealed have gotten wet, then we have moisture in the masonry, right? I am afraid that it could now start to mold. I always worry a lot.
