Good evening, our carpenter is supposed to make the walkable area of the attic of our bungalow ("Wohnraumbinder") with the dimensions 9.2 x 3.5 m walkable. Access is via a pull-down ladder and this area is only to be used as storage for various things. The carpenter suggests using 22mm ESB boards with tongue and groove system as material (cheaper compared to OSB). The insulation between the rafters is 24 cm and for ventilating the ESB boards, the carpenter wants to create a 4 cm gap using battens. According to the static calculation, this area is also to be structurally designed as a panel with 22 mm boards.
Who has experience with ESB boards?
The carpenter wants to nail the battens to the bottom chord of the trusses and then lay the boards perpendicular to them. The truss spacing is 92 cm. Intuitively, I would prefer to lay the battens perpendicular to the trusses with a small spacing and then lay the boards again perpendicular to them. What spacing of the battens would you recommend?
Many thanks in advance!
