Hello,
we have finally decided on a platform and want to "install" it right away next week when it arrives. It will be a platform measuring 210x115cm. It consists of basalt block steps (100x35x15 and 50x35x15) as edging, and in the middle there will be basalt terrace slabs 2-3cm thick (80x40 and 60x40cm).
I have already gravelled the path from the street to the door with frost protection gravel with a 2% gradient and compacted it with a 120kg plate. I also raised and compacted the platform (there is only one step).
Now my question: should I lay gravel under the platform (the block steps are extremely heavy) just like with paving? I think so ;-)
And then, the more important question: do I first make the platform and then lay the paving up to the platform, or do I first lay the paving up to one stone below the platform and then place the platform on top?
I’m afraid that if I do the platform first and maybe have to concretely anchor it with a wedge, I won’t be able to lay the paving cleanly right up to the step because of the wedge.
I hope you understand what I mean?
