Electrosmog - Minimum distance to 220 kV high-voltage line?

Hello everyone,

I want to buy a house and recently looked at a property where everything would actually fit – except for the high-voltage power line. It runs only about 20 meters past the house, and that just doesn’t feel right to me. Are there any reputable studies on the topic of electrosmog from high-voltage power lines? What minimum distance should residential buildings have from such a line? For some, this is certainly “nonsense,” but I have two children, and I don’t want to expose them to any avoidable danger.

I guess you won’t find any reliable and clear studies on that. For some, Elektrosmog is pure hocus-pocus, and for others, a serious health hazard. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle. If I were you, I wouldn’t buy the house; if problems arise later, you will always think it’s because of the [Hochspannungsleitung], and then you won’t feel safe in your own four walls anymore.

The Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU) offers information on the topic, have a look here:

That is an exciting topic and should not be taken lightly. So a high-voltage power line 20 meters from the house, no thanks. I would not buy this house. The distance should be at least 150 to 200 meters.

I also believe there are no reliable sources or studies here. This power line would be too close to the house for me. It is also dangerous during thunderstorms, and a lightning strike could hit here.

This is a hotly debated issue. I believe these high-voltage power lines do not pose a danger. However, they do not quite fit into the landscape.
