Hi guys,

Decorating is all well and good, but my flatmate is really overdoing it. I live in a four-person shared flat and for almost half a year now we’ve also got a girl on board. Gradually, the decorative items in our shared living room have kept increasing more and more. I admit the decoration was very Spartan before and peeled-off beer labels stuck to the wall aren’t everyone’s taste. But you—or rather, a woman—can also overdo it, and by now there’s hardly a spot without some little bottle with a plastic flower in it or something similar. Don’t get me wrong, it honestly looks better than before and she does have good taste, but whoever is responsible for cleaning is stuck dusting for ages. It doesn’t have to be like that—keyword: healthy balance!! So, I just had to get that off my chest. Thanks

Hello Beitrag,

you speak from my soul, at our place the whole house is also full of such stuff. And where there is no more space, one is simply created. Quote: "I could put away my old swimming trophies, they are just dust collectors anyway!" - Hello, are you serious? I go along with a lot of things and when it comes to decoration, I have nothing to say anyway.

But not this time. !!!The trophies are still there and will stay where they are - come what may!!!

Somehow you have to make an apartment – and especially a shared flat that was previously testosterone-dominated – cozy!

My experiences with the necessary steps so far:
1. Carry out a major cleaning
2. Discuss wall colors (and change if necessary)
3. Finishing touches – the (here dreaded) decorating

And – guys, admit it: You also feel more comfortable when it doesn’t look quite so Spartan!

And about the cleaning problems: As if the male roommates would clean thoroughly... *ahem* ;)
