Hello everyone,

I wanted to expand my existing Besta into a display cabinet and use the Mittled spots for lighting, ideally recessed. It is recommended to use a hole saw for this. Do you think it's a good idea to drill 2 x 76mm holes in the lid on these pressboard things, or should I rather do it "surface-mounted" as recommended in the instructions?

Looking forward to your feedback.

I wanted to make something like that for cable glands (the module with finished was too flat for me). Why do you think it could be a problem? Or rather, what do you think will happen?

Could possibly tear out, break through, or something similar. I just found a picture – the hole looks decent. Maybe I'll try that too.

If you drill from both sides, nothing will break out. So only drill halfway through and then the rest from the backside. But this only works with a hole saw with a pilot drill.

Of course I destroyed the lid while trying to mill a hole into it. I am simply not made for such delicate work on such a cardboard part - the extension is there anyway - including the light, whose cable naturally wouldn’t have been visible anyway, since the display case is so deep.

Funny… ancient Besta furniture… light gray wall, and I'm considering painting the cabinets gray/taupe…
