Hello forum,

our general contractor wants us to choose a door from the manufacturer "Obuk." I don't think the doors are bad; there is exactly one model that we like. The carpenter who installs the doors and windows also has a showroom. It is noticeable that the handles or the fastenings slightly deform when pulling them open. Is that normal, do you have to live with it, or is it better with other manufacturers? Does anyone have experience with the manufacturer?

The carpenter also said that for our larger windows (width 2.26m in the shell construction) we cannot get one-piece roller shutters - unless they are made of aluminum. Furthermore, he recommended that we reconsider our desired color (anthracite) because otherwise we would bring too much heat into the house with the dark color. Does that really make such a big difference? Do the aluminum shutters have any disadvantages other than the price? For 11 windows, the aluminum shutters cost an additional 2,500 euros.

Hello Knallkörper, Obuk, to my knowledge, does not manufacture front doors but only the door panels, which are inserted into front doors (aluminum or PVC) - like a glass pane. These are nowadays often overlaying the sash (outside or on both sides). In some front door - actually door panel models - the handle is mounted on the panel. In others, the handle is attached to the sash. I would prefer the second variant, because pulling on the handle bends the panel more or less each time. Of course, this depends on the panel material, panel thickness, type of attachment, etc. It is certainly the case that aluminum panels should be more stable than plastic panels. Regarding the roller shutters: Your joiner spoke well. I think it is a good sign that he expressed concerns. For this size, the roller shutters should be made of aluminum. Especially if the windows might still be floor-to-ceiling. Yes, all components with dark exterior colors absorb more heat and also expand accordingly. That can lead to problems. This risk is significantly lower with aluminum roller shutters than with plastic roller shutters. I have just installed my aluminum roller shutters. I chose silver. But that is a matter of taste.
