Hello, Some family members help us on the construction site in the evenings and weekends without pay. Our question now is, do we have to insure them against accidents, etc.? Do we have to report them or does the architect/site manager? Thank you Marinee

Hello Marinee,

A builder who works on the construction site themselves should definitely have life and accident insurance. For assisting family members and friends, a construction helper insurance can be taken out. Here, the contributions are calculated as a flat rate depending on the number of hours worked.

Do you "have to"? Otherwise, your helpers are not insured - helping at their own risk?

I would definitely also take out insurance for the helpers. Besides quality control on the construction site, the safety of everyone involved is the most important thing, right? So many accidents happen, so I would definitely ask around about that.
