Hello everyone,

I have already googled many answers, but none really fit our situation.

Situation: Owner-occupied single-family house construction in BaWü.

- Do I need a SiGeKo here? (it costs about €2000 after all) I have heard different statements about this.
- If not strictly necessary: is it perhaps still useful? (I would have assumed that my turnkey construction contractor is responsible for safety and the rest is covered by our builder's liability insurance)

Thanks in advance for the answers and best regards

At Wikipedia, the Sicherheits- und Gesundheitsschutzkoordinator = Sicherheits- und Gesundheitsschutz-Koordinator is explained quite well. For large and public construction projects, it is definitely mandatory.

Then a look at the regulation is enough: §2 para. 2 BaustellV
and then you know that you can do without it

(and I am a bit wiser again )

Right, you are correct. Fortunately, the BaustellV is kept quite short; I have come to the conclusion that we do not need a SiGeKo, but only for larger construction projects. But it does cause an uneasy feeling when the client's consultant tells you that the scaffold does not comply with the safety regulations and I, as the client, am liable for it. However, after consulting with my client's liability insurance, I now also know: since I am now aware of this, I must in turn request my general contractor (preferably in writing) to rectify the defect, and then everything should be fine again. I hope a court will see it that way in case of doubt.
