Hi,

we currently disagree about the maximum distance allowed between screws on gypsum boards.
Is there a standard for this or can it be done as one thinks?
Of course, the boards should be secure, but the fewer screws, the less filling you have to do :)
Thanks.

Hi Senni, I can't say if there is a standard. It also depends on the thickness of the plasterboard. I always take a distance of 20 centimeters and it has always held well so far. So have fun at work

mmh you have to putty anyway, right, or do you leave the joint open? and whether you fill the tiny holes more when puttying, well no, that's really no excuse

so we always screwed depending on the substrate, for stable slats for example one screw every 25 cm, also along the entire joint. Some also screw every 15 cm, but that does cost money, because the screws themselves are what costs money, not the little bit of filler :)

I place the screws at a distance of 25 cm and actually it doesn't matter how many screws are countersunk. That bit of [Spachtelmasse] doesn't cost anything.

Mmh, there are guidelines for that...

Screwing

The first panel is precisely leveled with a spirit level and screwed in starting from the center.

For the following panels, the screwing begins at the adjoining panel corner and is continued without tensioning the panels.

The screwing is done first on the more stable web side of the lateral CW profile flange. The dot markings in the middle of the visible sides and the back sides of the panels provide good orientation aids for the stud adjustment in the panel center.

A flat support width at the panel joints of 1⁄2 CW profile width must be maintained.
– 1st fastening point = approx. 100 mm away from the ceiling or the floor (see [Bild 3]).

For static reasons, it is advantageous to screw in the Rigips quick-build screws in a staggered manner (distance 20 to 30 mm)

so a distance of 25 cm is not so bad after all, 15 cm is already too much of a good thing :)
