Hello,

I am still in the very early planning phase of the house. What dimensions do I need to plan for a quarter-turn staircase in the floor plan?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards
Kathi

Depends on stair width, floor height, stair inclination (ratio of tread length to step height) and ceiling constructions. Hardly anyone can give you a general answer.

For a rough estimate: One step is about 25-27 cm long and about 17 cm high.

The staircase is optimal if you follow the following formula:
2*H+1*A=63 cm
Where H is the step height and A is the tread length. The 63 cm is the optimal stride length to be achieved.

According to our Austrian building regulations, a step must not be higher than 20 cm and shorter than 25 cm. I wouldn’t recommend anything else either.

It’s best if you go to a staircase supplier and try going up and down several different staircases and take the measurements of the staircase that suits you best. But with the mentioned 63 cm you can calculate a suitable staircase for yourself.
