Hello, unfortunately I am an electrical novice. So please forgive me if the question is nonsense. I understand the difference between a switch and a push button. But if both are equipped with a dimming function, is there still a difference? Attention: I am not concerned with the electricity itself or the wiring behind it, but only with the appearance of the switch/push button!

Thank you for your enlightening answers!

Dimmer switches are usually round rotary controls that turn the light on at the brightness level it was turned off at when pressed in the middle. By turning the knob to the left or right, you can make the light brighter or dimmer. Dimmer buttons look like regular light switches. The first "press" turns the light on at the brightness level it was at when turned off. Holding it down makes the light brighter. Releasing and holding again dims the light. I'm not an electrician either, but this is how it works for me. Dining table lamps as dimmer switches, LED bathroom lighting as buttons.

Thank you for your explanation! In the meantime, I have come a little closer to the topic. The difference is actually rotary dimmer or touch dimmer. Are there reasons why one type is installed in one room and the other type in another room?

I assume you can also get a dimming push button in the appearance of shutter up/down push buttons. What is your application supposed to be?

The application in this case is exclusively lighting (ceiling lights). Hence the question whether there are recommendations for individual rooms, whether rotary dimmers or push-button dimmers are better.
