Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding two planned geothermal deep drillings with a depth of 60 meters each in the area of the driveway.

Is it possible to place the drillings in the area of a paved driveway, or is it to be expected that the subsequently applied paving stones will cause problems/efficiency losses? What is your assessment of the described issue?

I would be very happy to receive feedback. Thank you very much in advance for your answers!

Best regards

That should not be a problem.

That is possible, but a minimum distance of 3m to the boundary, 3m to the house, and at least 6m between the probes side by side must be maintained.

What forces you to drill twice 60m and not once deeper? Saves good money.

Thank you very much for the previous feedback.

In principle, nothing forces me to provide two boreholes instead of one borehole. This is merely the previous proposal from the drilling company. The drilling company is apparently only allowed to drill up to a maximum of 99.9 m. My question regarding this topic would now be whether one borehole of 99.9 m can be considered energetically equivalent to two boreholes of 60 m each? If yes, I would approach the drilling company again and ask for one borehole of 99.9 m (instead of the previously planned two boreholes of 60 m each).

I must also point out that the two previously planned boreholes are not 6 m apart, but only 5 m apart? Is this a big problem or rather negligible?

From 100m an additional permit is required and that's it. Furthermore, the withdrawal capacity is better further down. So yes, in total fewer meters drilled. Also, the drill does not need to be repositioned, nor grouted twice, etc. Additionally, the shaft with the couplings for multiple probes is saved.
It's not inherently bad though. If the drilling is already included flat-rate, okay. If you have to pay per meter, find another solution.

The 6m should be known by the drilling master. The drilling must also be applied for, no idea if that could become an issue.

Hi,

we had a borehole drilled with 132 meters on our driveway and then paved over it. It’s no problem at all.

We also had the choice between one and two boreholes. With two boreholes, we would have faced an additional cost of easily 1500-2000€.

As far as I know, starting at 100 meters you only need an additional permit, which is not difficult to obtain. It might even be that the drilling company handles that themselves.

Don’t get ripped off and better ask another drilling company if it would be problematic to do only one borehole.

Regards
Michael
