Hello dear community,

I have a problem with my white plastic garden furniture. I leave them outside all year round and of course a lot of dirt accumulates. Unfortunately, I can't get them clean anymore. Although I cleaned thoroughly, all the surfaces are full of dark spots. They seem to be in the material itself. What is that and how can I get rid of it?

Plastic surfaces are decomposed and become porous due to UV light; dirt can thus penetrate the plastic surface. These dark spots can have many causes: lichens, mosquito droppings, bird excrement (with remains of dark berries). I think you will no longer be able to remove these spots.

Dear Gartentussi,

I was able to remove dark spots with a simple eraser. Maybe it will work for you too?

Best regards!

Yes, I share the same opinion. I had this problem too. I then got poly rattan furniture, which I find easier to maintain. Otherwise, for next time, I can only give the tip to store the furniture well so that it is protected from sunlight :)

Best regards,
Marlen

Polyrattan is a name for a plastic weave, but has nothing to do with natural rattan. We have oiled wooden furniture, but we also protect it with appropriate covers against the weather, just as recommended by Marlen. Stained plastic furniture no longer gets properly clean.
