Curtain rails on the ceiling or wall - Which ones can you recommend?

Hello dear forum,

unfortunately, we have no idea about curtains.

But now we want to start in the children's room and want to install floor-length curtains there. I had the idea of pink scarves and maybe white ones behind them that peek out a little.

So we need a rail with 2 tracks.

To make the room look nicely tall, I would like to attach the rail to the ceiling. Or do you think it would be better on the wall and then as high as possible in case the little one wants to take the rails down someday?

And can you recommend rails by any chance? There are so many. I have already googled for days. I would like modern, very flat and inconspicuous ones.

And how is it with the gliders and hooks and such? And do you need such a bulge to make it easier to put the curtains in and out? You can always choose that.

If the windows are 2m wide, how wide should the rail be then?

I would really be grateful for your help.

After that, the living room comes next. Originally, we didn't want any curtains there... but somehow something is missing. That's why we also want something discreet next to the windows to make it cozier :)

Kind regards Ivonne

To be honest, it reminds me of my caravan, which had these rails for the pierced curtains, but I replaced them. Since I’m not a fan of curtains, but I sometimes prefer to have nothing in front of my eyes, I have scarves from Ikea in the bedroom. I would also recommend something like that for a children's room. They hang quite high on a rod and rest on the floor. For 2 meters width, 2.40 meters is tight for the rod. The fabric itself is a total of 3 meters for the scarves. If you want regular pleats, you need three times the width. But then it becomes quite “conservative.” I recommend a rod because it can serve well as a decorative aid and, unlike those rails, it doesn’t bother on the ceiling.

I (also?) think that curtains are a very individual matter of taste. What I like is when a function is recognizable as such. The rails with hooks do rather the opposite: they "hide" the function (of sliding). I am a fan of curtain rods and have stretched wires from wall to wall in my place, on which metal rings slide that have a clip at the bottom, which can be easily put on and taken off (for washing) (there are now some that also hold – curtains used to always slip off such clips).

It depends on how much space you have above the window. If it’s more than 40 cm, classic curtain rods can look good; if it’s closer to 20 cm, then tracks are the better choice. In the children's room of our apartment, we have a double-track, white aluminum rail that is only 1.5 cm high, runs from wall to wall, and doesn’t stand out at all when the curtain is pushed to the side.
The curtain rod attached to the wall in the house was easily pulled out of the wall by the little one. :)
