Hi, I want to replace the siphon because it is now 'worn out'. In the process, I noticed that something is not right (see photo). Does anyone have an equally creative solution for a better way to do this? The previously considered bottle trap probably won't work. Why the water sometimes drains poorly is also explained by this. Slightly frustrated regards

There are flat siphons that should be enough. Is it going to be covered somehow? Then you can take the flexible ones, but actually the hole of the drain is much too high.

For idiots like me: What is wrong with it?

Go to a well-stocked store. There are siphon round pieces in various dimensions. With them, you can build a shorter "u" and the water should drain a bit better.

You don't know, the basin can also be very low.

There are 30 cm tiles on the wall, so I assume it's a standard sink.

, water just doesn't flow uphill.

Nothing needs to go uphill there. If you pour water in, it will flow away. That’s the basic principle of a siphon.

From hampshire’s answer, I now see that the U is "too high." The water doesn’t care, but the dirt will flow away poorly there.

-edit- If this were a rainwater drain, the trap water height of 100mm according to DIN 1986-100 would even be correct.
