Hello,

I need some technical help.
I want to build a pedestal for the outdoor unit (split system) of my air-to-water heat pump myself.
The dimensions are 1.35 m x 0.75 m. The thickness should be about 20 cm. What is needed here (gravel, sand, steel, etc.)?
Are there actually any ready-made products for this (e.g., mixing granulate with water) available at the building center, or do I have to make concrete the traditional way, i.e., with a concrete mixer? What do I need to consider?

I would be very grateful for tips.

Best regards

There is screed concrete in sacks at the hardware store, one sack of 40 kg yields 20l, so for your 202 liters I would buy 10-11 sacks. Whether reinforcement is necessary at this size and load is questionable, I would cut in 2 layers of reinforcement mesh, you should ensure sufficient concrete cover on all sides.

Under the slab you should put a layer of gravel or crushed stone.

Regards,

Sebastian

Hello,

thank you very much for the quick response. I believe the splitting machine weighs around 30 kg. I was just at the hardware store and they recommended the product B03 from Qick-Mix. What grain size should the gravel be? And how many cm thick should the gravel layer be (according to the hardware store approximately 30 cm)? Do I need to go over it again with a vibrating plate or is it sufficient to compact the gravel layer using a tamper? The base is compacted recycled sand.

"you should ensure sufficient concrete cover on all sides" what does that mean?

Thank you very much in advance.

Manufacturers often offer suggestions for this. But beware, with air heat pumps noise may possibly be expected. In addition to the airborne noise from the fan, low-frequency structure-borne noise can cause significant problems. Regards
