Hello everyone,

we have just renovated our bathroom and after a few weeks have now discovered cracks in the plaster and tiles. I ask for your assessment and suggestions on how to proceed.

Conditions / Execution:
- Solid construction, built in 1971
- Old tiles were removed
- Fermacell Powerpanel H2O fixed to the existing walls with adhesive binder and 80mm panel screws
- Screws and panel joints impregnated and filled with Uniflott and surface sanded
- Tiles attached with Knauf Flexkleber Extra
- Above half of the tiles, plaster primer and roll plaster applied

Pictures show the interim status with crack positions before plastering.

We hope you can give us back our hope!

Regards
Mario and the fellow builders

How about pictures of the cracks? Presumably, the cracks formed exactly at the joint edges of the panels?

Did you tile yourselves? Did you embed mesh tape in the joints? That is supposed to prevent cracks. I would also suspect that the cracks are at the joints.

Attached is the picture of the crack path plaster --> tile. Yes, we tiled it ourselves and apparently did not apply any tape there. For me, it now looks like this:
- Replace tile
- Sand down roll plaster
- Apply crack tape with filler
- Completely refinish wall area
- Re-prime
- Apply wall covering
How do you see it?

Alternatively: accept minor cosmetic defect
Proper blocking primer was applied under the tile?

We’ll leave it as it is for now until the heaters and the wood stove are installed, so it doesn’t get too cold for us. Since it annoys me, I will correct it in due course. The tightness is not a problem. Water can now only flow from the upper floor into this room.
