Hello everyone,

we have settlement cracks in our house (built in 1965) that appear in the lime-sandstone plaster and have a width of about 1 mm. The house is clad with bricks on the outside and no cracks are visible. The wall with the large crack was recently milled to remove old Styrofoam adhesive. There had been a Styrofoam insulation layer about 1 cm thick on it for many years. The crack only became visible after the removal. The property has rather sandy soil; we suspect that the cracks have been there for a long time, probably formed shortly after construction due to settling. However, I am unsure to what extent such a crack should be treated. Or are the cracks not entirely uncritical?

Best regards
Andreas
