Hello everyone,

we received a letter from a surveyor today. It concerns the building staking before the start of construction. Is it normal for an engineer to do this? The whole thing is supposed to cost about €890 according to HOAI.

Thanks and best regards.

Many thanks But already under the cost point "not calculated" - we only had the measuring at the end planned.

This does not have to be done by an engineer - ideally, it is of course done by the surveyor who will later officially measure the house.

I paid 150 euros for measuring the batter board... I will pay the 850 euros plus tax later for the official measurement.

It is normal, but it does not necessarily have to be done by a publicly appointed surveyor unless the local building authority requires it. Basically, it is advisable to have this service performed by the surveyor because everyone else lacks the experience.

At first glance, a proud price, but it can be justified. It depends on what is included in the price and which services you need.

The construction company will always require that the building is staked out by a survey engineer.
It does not have to be a publicly appointed survey engineer; it can also be an ordinary engineering office.
It should be noted that the Surveying Cadastre Act is regulated differently in each federal state.

How expensive the staking out will be depends on the scope. 4 corners cost less than additional bay windows, angled walls, etc.
If you are building with a basement, the survey engineer will come out twice. Rough staking of the excavation and after the excavation is completed, a string framework in the excavation.
