Hi, I am curious about how to protect oneself when not married to your partner but still want to build a house together. What steps need to be taken to secure both parties? There is never a guarantee for the continuation of a relationship. Has anyone perhaps experienced a similar situation? Thank you! Mirakulix

Well, I would strongly advise you to have everything secured in advance by a lawyer or notary. Basically like a prenuptial agreement, only with the difference that you are not married. Because building a house is an incredibly high financial expense and should ultimately secure the livelihood of both parties.

The most important thing is, first and foremost, that all loan agreements and projects are in both names. Because especially in the event of a dispute, the signatures on the contracts are decisive. For example, if the financing is in the name of the man alone, or the woman, they are not only solely liable for the repayment, but in the end also hold the crucial document they need to prove who paid for the entire construction project. Both should also be listed in the land register in the end, as that is one of the most important points anyway. ;)

Hi, thanks for your tips. That's how we'll do it then. You really can't imagine how stupid things can turn out eventually. So we'll put everything in both our names and also have both of us entered in the land register. Hopefully, then everything will be clearly settled. Thanks again!
