We are planning a flat-sloped shed roof for our new building, with a gradient between 7-10°. Now we are faced with the question of how this should be designed and covered. The basic dimensions of the house are 10.99 x 10.865 and the roof is to slope upwards towards the north. The orientation is exactly 0° south. We are planning a photovoltaic system and are now wondering how we should design this with regard to thermal insulation, sound insulation, cost-effectiveness, and of course longevity.

Option 1:

Reinforced concrete ceiling on the upper floor, insulation and mounted roof truss with double standing seam metal roof

Option 2:

Same as Option 1, only Braas 7° roof tile

Option 3:

No reinforced concrete ceiling but beam construction, covering either metal or Braas 7° roof tile.

I currently favor Option 1 because it is executed as a cold roof and metal is the better covering at the desired slope. I would like to hear your opinions and experiences on this?

You can hear metal during precipitation. I wouldn't do that. I can't say anything about the rest.

very nice, finally a shed roof again

Under the reinforced concrete ceiling, the metal roof is certainly no longer audible. The standing seam covering is also watertight at this pitch, but not exactly cheap. However, if the roof is covered with photovoltaics, unfortunately, not much of the beautiful metal will be visible anymore. The insulation is almost independent of the roof structure.

Why does the roof rise to the north? In my opinion, it is much nicer to let the roof rise to the south so that the house opens to the sun with large windows.

I would choose option 1. Visually, I like it best and it is certainly the most sensible technically.

However, the ceiling would have to rise with the roof pitch for that to make sense.

I see this longing disappointed here - the original poster does not seem to want a recognizable shed roof here, but one that pretends to be a flat roof.

It’s clear that you can hear it. You can also hear a roof window. Maybe there is someone in the forum who can report on this. I think the plasterboard ceiling + insulation will absorb some sound.

Because of the photovoltaic system. You have to decide. Energy saving through the sun inside the house or generating energy.

If I wanted a flat roof, I would build one. Have you ever considered what height difference on 11 m corresponds to a roof pitch of 7–10°? If so, you would notice that the desired roof very much reflects the shape of a shed roof. How you want to define that is up to you.

If you also want to contribute constructive comments to the mentioned variants, or even name another variant, it would certainly help not only me but all other readers.
