In my stairwell, someone had good intentions and welded a beige end plate made of solid sheet metal to the frame of the staircase so that it aligns in height with the floor covering and conceals the cut edge of the laminate. Now, I want tiles at this spot that are raised at least 5mm visibly above this end edge. Is there a good way to conceal this transition? I know of stair profiles made of aluminum or stainless steel, into which the tile is directly laid and which have a downward edge. But this is not possible here because this beige plate protrudes above the screed. Anyone have an idea what could be a visually good solution here? The first thing that comes to mind is a custom adjustment profile. Other ideas?

Hello,

do I understand correctly that the existing laminate will be removed and new tiles will be laid? If yes, then simply cut off the protruding metal after removing the laminate (should be between 10 and 15mm) and then you have all options regarding the choice of finishing profiles.

Since the metal will look a bit unsightly after cutting due to the heat input and some sparks anyway, you can paint it white like the plastered wall underneath at the same time.
